Former Central NY teacher accused of raping victim nearly 2 decades ago

Homer, N.Y. — A now-retired high school teacher has been accused of raping someone he knew nearly two decades ago, according to deputies.
Paul P. Andre, 56, was arrested and charged with first-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual act on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.
In September, deputies said they received a report that Andre sexually abused a victim between September 2006 and June 2008 at undisclosed locations in the Village of Homer and the Town of Solon. They said there was one victim.
Deputies did not say how Andre knew the victim, whether the victim was male or female or the age of the victim. Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard has reached out for more information.
Andre was a teacher at the Homer Central High School, according to the district.
The Homer Central School District in a letter to parents said they didn’t have any information indicating inappropriate conduct had occurred with any student.
Thomas Turc, the district’s superintendent, said the district “immediately” placed Andre on leave and reported the information to the state Education Department.
Andre is no longer employed by the district, he said. The school board approved his retirement during its Sept. 24 meeting, he said.
Turc said counselors are available to meet with students
“We know that it can be quite disturbing to learn that one of our teachers was charged with a crime such as this,” Turc said. “Our primary focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of our students”
Andre turned himself in to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday.
Andre is being held in the Cortland County Correctional Facility.
